One of the wonderful benefits of Gold is that it doesn’t tarnish! However, that is not true for gold-plated pieces. Gold plated jewelry tarnishes because the molecules of the base metals used to create the jewelry before it receives its gold plating eventually transfers into the thin layer of gold, which causes the gold layer to break down.
